North America
The North American region includes the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. North American (U.S. and Canadian) crude oil and NGL production was 11.99 million b/d in 2011. Crude oil and NGL production is projected to increase by 3.95 million b/d to 15.94 million b/d by 2015, growing to 18.80 million b/d by 2020. The large increase is attributed to development of new unconventional tight oil (via fracking) in the U.S. and expansion of oil sands production in Canada. North American crude oil and NGL production will continue to increase through 2030 and then begin to fall off through 2035. Peak 2030 crude oil and NGL production will increase by 63% over 2011.
